Facebook link clicks, reported landing page views and website sessions describe different points in a journey. Comparing them is useful, but subtracting one total from another does not automatically reveal the exact number of people who abandoned your website.
For a practical audit, begin with a single website campaign, one destination and a fixed reporting window. Mixing several destinations or including clicks to on-platform experiences can make a website comparison misleading before you calculate anything.
Identify the exact fields in your report
In Ads Manager, inspect the definitions attached to the click and landing-page fields available for your campaign. Do not substitute “all clicks” for website-bound actions. Check the destination scope, attribution settings and whether a field is estimated or modeled. Meta provides a dedicated help page for the relationship between link clicks and landing page views; access and current details may require signing in. Meta Business Help: Link clicks and landing page views
Conceptually, a link interaction occurs before a successful destination visit can be measured. Your own website then applies its own rules to sessions, users, page views and completed actions. Those different definitions are the starting point for an audit, not evidence of a broken campaign.
Compare like with like
Use the same dates, time zone, campaign and destination. For website traffic, isolate the relevant external-link actions instead of including interactions that lead somewhere else. Separate paid campaign rows from organic Page activity.
Next, confirm which website statistic you are comparing. Sessions are not unique people, and total page views can include several pages or repeat loads. A report labeled simply “visits” is insufficient unless its underlying definition is documented.
Do not assume that every measurement environment requires or uses the same tracking mechanism. Confirm the current options in your account rather than applying an old universal Pixel requirement.
Work through a hypothetical example
Suppose a matched campaign report shows 200 relevant link clicks, 150 reported landing page views and 135 tagged website sessions. The landing-page-to-click ratio is 75%. The session-to-click ratio is 67.5%.
These are reconciliation ratios for this example. Neither proves that exactly 50 or 65 distinct people left before arrival. Differences can reflect repeated actions, reporting scope, attribution, timing and measurement coverage as well as genuine loading problems.
If those 135 sessions include nine verified inquiries, the website inquiry rate is approximately 6.7%. Report that outcome separately rather than calling all 150 landing page views “leads.”
Add campaign labels you can inspect
A fictional campaign URL might be:
https://example.com/serviceguide?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=paid_social&utm_campaign=serviceguide&utm_content=demo1
Use a different medium for an organic placement. Google's campaign URL documentation explains the available UTM fields and how custom URLs supply campaign information. Google Analytics: campaign URL parameters
Test that the destination retains the labels through redirects. Do not add campaign parameters to ordinary internal navigation merely to label every button; track those interactions separately so the acquisition report remains understandable.
Diagnose the gap with a short checklist
Open the destination from the actual placement on a phone. Look for broken links, unnecessary redirects, slow visible content and an unclear next step. Check measurement settings and consent behavior, then compare device or placement segments where the data supports it.
Avoid a universal “healthy arrival rate.” Your own consistent baseline is more useful than a percentage borrowed from a different campaign setup.
Finally, keep Facebook likes, shares, followers and service orders separate from website acquisition. Penmowu's social quantities are not substitutes for recorded landing-page activity or sales.
